Dehradun, 5 Sep: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bilateral visit to Brunei, which resulted in strengthening of diplomatic ties, specially boosting commercial and cultural linkages, proved to be a huge success.
In an exclusive WhatsApp chat with Garhwal Post, Alok Dimri, India’s High Commissioner, said that Brunei is an important partner in India’s Act East Policy and our Indo-Pacific vision. India and Brunei enjoy a friendly relationship that is marked by mutual respect and understanding on bilateral and multilateral issues. The two countries are linked by history, culture and tradition spanning a millennium. Dimri added that this was the first-ever bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei. The historic visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Brunei. The visit of the Prime Minister was a resounding success, he reiterated.
After the bilateral meeting, Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Modi witnessed the signing ceremony of an MoU between the two governments on cooperation and Tele-command and Tele-command Station for Satellite and Launch Vehicles, and for Cooperation in the Field of Space Research, Science and Application.
Dimri hails from Garhwal and is a regular visitor to Dehradun. On his last visit to the city, he launched the reprint of the book “Memoir of Dehra Dun” by GRC Williams, at Natraj Bookshop. The book has an Introduction by Ruskin Bond and a Foreword by Surjit Das, former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand. Upendra Arora, owner, Natraj Publishers, told Garhwal Post that Dimri is an ardent book lover with a keen interest in literature related to the history of Garhwal and Kumaon. He is fond of writing poetry. A collection of his poems is to be published soon.
