Police act against 45 people drinking in public places

Dehradun, 11 Sep: Police have continued their campaign against people drinking alcohol in public places. On Wednesday night, police caught 45 people who were consuming alcohol openly on roadsides and inside vehicles. All of them were brought to the police station in government vehicles.

After questioning, police gave them strict warnings and took legal action under the Police Act. A total fine of Rs 11,250 was collected from them. Police also seized two vehicles during the drive.

The campaign was carried out in different areas including Premnagar market, Nanda Ki Chowki, Suddhowala, Jhajhra, Bidholi, Paundha, and in Raipur area at Maldevta Road, Thano Road, and Maharana Pratap Sports College Road.

The action was taken under the directions of SSP Dehradun, who has ordered strict measures against those creating nuisance by drinking in public places and also against people driving after drinking.

Police said such checking campaigns will continue across the district to maintain public order and safety.
