DEHRADUN, 9 Jul: Ram Prasad, who established Pramukh in 1996, to collect house to house garbage in Dehradun, a unique system established as the first of its kind in the city. It has now been taken over by the Nagar Nigam but is still known as Pramukh. A dinner was arranged in his honour at DSOI, where all members of the Executive attended. Though settled in the USA, Ram Prasad continues to be a life and founder member of Pramukh. Ram Prasad was very happy to meet everybody and learn that traditions of Pramukh had been maintained and though the house to house garbage collection had been taken over by the Nagar Nigam, but it remains involved in saving the environment by taking up action like tree plantation and converting tree leaves into compost by setting up wire net bays by a simple method that individuals can use themselves. He also praised the efforts being made to avoid use of plastic, which causes pollution. He was told that projects had been taken up for sustainable management of waste, especially segregation at different places rather than dumping at one place. Those present included Florence Pandhi, Dr Arun Kumar, Kusum, Jo Chopra, Brig KG Behl and Kamal Behl, Col JS Mann, Dr SS Negi, Beena Negi, Paramjeet Singh Kakkar, Nitin Shah. Ram Prasad thanked everybody and expressed his good wishes for the years to come. Brig Behl proposed the vote of thanks.
