Dehradun, 10 Jun: Pre-monsoon rains have already caused havoc in Uttarakhand. Heavy rain early this morning provided relief from humidity but inflicted damage at many places.
Landslides and flowing debris blocked roads in Doon as well as at other places in the state. Maldevta, here, was badly hit, which not only saw mud covering the road but also entering homes and shops. Also there was no loss of life or major damage to property, but it blocked the road and caused enormous inconvenience.
Minister in charge of Dehradun Ganesh Joshi and local MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’ reached the site and oversaw relief work. Faced with the anger of local residents, Joshi immediately ordered the suspension of the JE responsible for works in the area and action against the contractor.
Similar mudslides from hills have blocked roads in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pauri. Traffic was greatly disrupted in all these places.
