Dehradun, 20 Jun: Public anger and anguish persist against the recent firing incident at Dobhal Chowk in Raipur in which one person was killed. People today took to the streets to protest the crime and raised slogans against the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. A call for Doon Bandh was given for today in protest against the murder of Ravi Badola alias Deepak by criminals who had come from outside the state. People blocked Ring Road in the morning and raised slogans. They said that people here are now forced to live in the shadow of fear. As part of the declared blockade, the local people closed the shops near the Ring Road Pulia Number 6. However, as the protest caused traffic disruptions, the police arrested those protesting for justice in the morning itself and later they were released.
About 25 people, including both men and women sat on the dharna claiming that the police pushed and shoved them and that there were no policewomen to arrest the women. The market at Dobhalwala Chowk remained mostly closed.
It may be recalled that Mool Niwas, Bhoomi-Kanoon Samanvay Sangharsh Samiti had called for Dehradun Bandh today against alleged increase in criminal incidents in Dehradun. The Sangharsh Samiti had appealed to political parties, social organisations, traders, ex-servicemen, youth and women for cooperation in making the bandh successful.
While speaking with media persons along with the wife and sister of late Deepak alias Ravi Badola at Uttaranchal Press Club here, today, Sangharsh Samiti Convener Mohit Dimri said that everyone will have to come out on the streets to save the existence of the “native residents” of Uttarakhand. He claimed that criminal incidents are increasing. People are forced to live in the shadow of fear. He has demanded from the government to give a permanent job to the wife of late Deepak Badola, compensation of Rs 1 crore and free treatment to the injured along with compensation.
He also demanded the firing case be taken up in a fast track court. Urvi Badola, wife of deceased Deepak, said that now she is facing the problem of maintenance of her young child. The government should give her a permanent job and provide security to the family. Deceased Deepak’s sister Diksha said that the society should come forward to help them. Such incidents can happen to anyone else tomorrow.
It may be recalled that the Police has meanwhile arrested all the 7 accused in the case and yesterday they were also presented before the court. The incident has also raised concern about illegal money lending trade being done by people from some neighbouring states with a criminal background.
