Dehradun, 4 Apr: Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale, who is also the President of one faction of the Republican Party of India (API), today advised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to focus on saving his party rather than the constitution.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP’s Election Media Centre here, today, Athawale claimed that the Constitution is safe and is being strengthened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government. So, Rahul Gandhi should not worry about the Constitution but focus on saving his party which is going down the drain and needs all his attention in order to survive in politics.

Athawale said that Rahul Gandhi should realise that the Constitution itself provides for making amendments and therefore to bring any amendment is permissible. This does not mean the Constitution has been violated. Athawale’s address was expectedly replete with humorous couplets, which are his trademark.

Athawale claimed that, although Rahul Gandhi makes fun of the NDA’s claim of crossing 400 seats this time in the Parliamentary election, the ground reality is that it will do so. The Congress will struggle to cross even 40 seats.

Athawale enumerated the achievements of the Modi Government while targeting the Congress. He said that, in the past 10 years, India has been moving rapidly towards becoming a developed country. In the Parliamentary polls of 2014 and 2019, Modi had paid tribute to the Constitution and said he would work to strengthen it throughout his life. He has since focussed primarily on development and strengthening the economy, He reminded that, in the past 10 years under Modi, the economy of India has moved from tenth to fifth place and, in the possible third term under Modi, it would become the third largest in the world. If the BJP wins yet another term in 2029, the economy would reach the second spot.

He asserted that Modi is committed to all round development of the country and its people. That’s why his slogan is “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and now also “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwaas”. All his welfare schemes are aimed at benefiting every section of society, be it Dalits or Muslims. Athawale asserted that the welfare schemes like Ayushman Yojana, Ujwala Gas Scheme, PM Awaas Yojana, start-up loans have beneficiaries from all sections of society including the Muslims and the Dalits. There is no discrimination against any community or section of society under the Modi Government.

Athawale reminded that Modi has pledged to end corruption and it is for this reason why many of the Opposition leaders are now behind bars. They are behind bars not because of any political reasons but because Modi has encouraged the law to take its own course. Because of Modi, the scope for corruption has ended for the Congress and opposition leaders. All those who have committed dirty scams in the past or are still involved in such activities are being prosecuted. He asserted that the BJP or NDA government does not put anyone in jail, it is all happening under due legal process. Also referring to the scams of the UPA tenure, he said everyone has to pay for bad deeds, as the law is taking its course.

Terming Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and other similar campaigns as complete drama, the Union Minister said it is actually PM Modi who is uniting the country by ensuring discrimination free development of the country and of all. On the contrary, the Congress Governments could not unite the country. He added that Baba Saheb Ambedkar had worked to unify the country through the Constitution and today Prime Minister Modi is taking his work forward. He reminded that, in the past, as an ally of Congress and UPA, he had been urging the Manmohan Singh Government to establish a Baba Saheb Museum, but it did not listen. After he (Athawale) joined the NDA, he made a similar request to PM Modi who paid heed to his suggestion, and has constructed a museum. Now, Modi is continuously improving the condition of Dalits and backward sections through many public welfare schemes, while the opposition is spreading the illusion that the Constitution is in danger.

He called upon the Dalit community and his party workers to rally in support of the BJP candidates and make Modi the Prime Minister for the third straight time. Regarding the confusion being spread in the Muslim community, he clarified that all the schemes of the Central and State Government are being operated on the basis of Sarva Dharma, Sarva Samaj Sambhaav, hence there is no need for the people of the minority community to get confused. He requested the Dalits and backward classes of the state to support the BJP candidates.

Athawale also praised the work of the Dhami government, and added that it is carrying out Prime Minister Modi’s mission well in Uttarakhand. Regarding the implementation of UCC, he said, this is a big decision in the interest of the safety of backward people and the rights of women in minority society. He also praised an order issued during the Chief Ministership of Trivendra Rawat to put up the portraits of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in all government offices.

Former Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, State Media In-charge Manveer Chauhan, State Spokesperson Suresh Joshi, MLA Khajan Das, State Vice President Deshraj Karnwal , Rajendra Negi, Manik Nidhi Sharma, Sunita Vidyarthi, Honey Pathak, Kamlesh Raman were among those present at the press conference.
