Dehradun, 25 Oct: The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has taken stringent action against Uttarakhand’s only Unani medical college after alleged irregularities, including the presence of 20 fake faculty members and tampering of CCTV footage, came to light during a recent inspection. The Commission has suspended the recognition of Uttaranchal Unani Medical College and Hospital, located at Padartha in Haridwar, for the 2026-27 academic session and has also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore. As a result, admissions to all the 60 Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) seats for the upcoming academic session have been halted.

The action is being viewed as one of the toughest measures taken so far against alleged irregularities in medical education in the state. According to reports, the institution had been operating for a considerable period without fully adhering to the prescribed norms and standards. The matter had come to light after a surprise inspection was carried out some weeks ago by a special team of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board.

During the inspection, investigators reportedly found that the names of 20 professors and faculty members were shown in official records despite the fact that they were not actually teaching at the institution. The inspection team also detected serious irregularities in the Aadhaar-linked biometric attendance system used for faculty attendance. When officials sought documentary proof and surveillance records, the college administration allegedly submitted edited and looped CCTV footage, raising further concerns about attempts to conceal deficiencies.
