Dehradun, 16 Sep: State Public Works and Irrigation Minister Satpal Maharaj said today that the heavy downpour since last night in Dehradun and surrounding areas has severely disrupted normal life. Around 20 to 30 roads and several bridges have been damaged, while many link roads have been completely cut off.
The Minister stated that, on the Mussoorie–Dehradun Road, near Shiv Mandir, a bridge was damaged due to heavy rains. To ensure smooth traffic movement, work on a valley bridge is underway. He has directed officials of the PWD and NHAI to immediately repair rain-affected main roads and restore traffic. He also added that at Premnagar, near Nanda Ki Chowki, traffic has been diverted entirely through the NHAI route after a bridge over the Tons River was damaged.
Maharaj further stated that, near Maldevta, around 70–100 metres of the road from Keserwala towards Maldevta, along Raipur Chowk, was washed away due to the overflowing Song River. Restoration work has already begun. Similarly, on the Dehradun–Haridwar National Highway, near the Jakhan River at Laltappar, a portion of the bridge was damaged. Consequently, traffic is being diverted via Bhaniyawala and Nepali Farm alternative routes. He assured that as soon as the water level recedes, repair work on the damaged portion of the bridge will be started immediately.
