Republic Day function held with fanfare at Parade Ground

Dehradun, 27 Jan: On the occasion of the 74th Republic Day, the main function of the state was held at the Parade Ground here, on Thursday, at which Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) unfurled the national flag and reviewed the parade.

On this occasion, CRPF, ITBP, Police, PAC, Home Guard, PRD jawans along with NCC contingents took part in the parade, at which the Governor took the salute. Folk artists of the state and school children also presented a mesmerising performance of cultural folk dances.

On the occasion, Governor Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also unveiled the ‘Vision Document’ of the Uttarakhand Police. On this occasion, outstanding police personnel were honoured for their meritorious services.

Sushil Kumar, the driver of Haryana Roadways, Paramjit Nayan, the operator, and two employees working in Uttam Sugar Mill, who played an important role in the rescue of Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant, injured in a road accident, were also honoured by the Governor and the Chief Minister.

On the occasion, tableaux based on various programmes, schemes and policies of the Women Empowerment and Child Development Department, Rural Development, Tourism Department, Horticulture Department, Education Department, Health Department, Forest Department and Industries Department were displayed at the Parade Ground.

The tableau of the Horticulture Department was declared the winner, while the second place went to the tableau of the Tourism Department. The third place was won by the tableau of the Education Department.

During the parade, the 2nd Garhwal Rifles, CRPF, ITBP, Uttarakhand Police, Uttarakhand Special Police, Uttarakhand Special Police (Women), Home Guards, PRD, NCC Boys, NCC Girls were the major participants. Among the parading contingents, 2nd Platoon Central Reserve Police Force stood first, 1st Squad Garhwal Rifles, second, while the 5th Platoon, Uttarakhand Mahila Dal, secured the third position.

Cholia, Garhwali, Bhangda, Kauthik, Basant, Harul dances were performed by various cultural groups on the occasion. These performances were greatly enjoyed by those present.

MP Naresh Bansal, Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, local MLA Khajan Das, Chief Secretary Dr SS Sandhu, DGP Ashok Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Secretary to Governor Dr Ranjit Kumar Sinha, Director General, Information, Bansidhar Tiwari, District Magistrate, Dehradun, Sonika along with senior police and administrative officials, public representatives, special dignitaries and general public were also present.
