Dehradun, 28 Sep: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Monday held a courtesy meeting with Abha Chaudhary, President of Anugrah Sanstha, at Lok Bhavan. During the meeting, she apprised the Governor of the initiatives being undertaken by the organisation for the empowerment and welfare of senior citizens, as well as its upcoming programmes. Anugrah Sanstha works towards the empowerment and overall development of socially and economically disadvantaged sections of society. The organisation is particularly active in the field of senior citizen welfare.
The Governor appreciated the efforts being made by the organisation for the welfare and empowerment of senior citizens. He said that all sections of society need to make greater collective efforts to ensure the dignity, health, safety and better quality of life of senior citizens. He emphasised that the use of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) should be expanded to help senior citizens become more self-reliant, enabling them to use modern technology more effectively in their daily lives and reducing their dependence on others.
The Governor said that caring for and respecting senior citizens is a collective responsibility. He noted that senior citizens possess extensive life experience and knowledge, which should be shared for the benefit of society and the younger generation. For this purpose, they should be connected with social activities and provided opportunities to actively participate in meaningful activities according to their interests and abilities.
The Governor suggested organising various programmes to raise awareness about senior citizens and their needs. He said that universities, district magistrates, ex-servicemen and other social organisations could also be involved in such programmes. He also emphasised organising interaction and mentorship programmes to help pass on the experience and expertise of senior citizens to the younger generation.
