Dehradun, 9 Jul: With the belief that meaningful change begins with awareness and collective action, The Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK), Dehradun, a non-governmental organisation, which has been working tirelessly to empower vulnerable communities through environmental awareness, education, legal advocacy, and many other marginalised communities as well as tribes.
RLEK, organised an awareness programme on “Conservation of Resources” for urban slum workers and domestic helpers on here today. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of urban slum workers and domestic helpers, including both women and men, who formed the core audience of the event. Their active involvement throughout the programme reflected a growing interest in understanding how simple everyday actions can contribute towards conserving valuable natural resources and protecting the environment. The event aimed to promote the responsible use of essential resources such as water, electricity, and petroleum, encouraging participants to adopt simple yet effective practices for a more sustainable future.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome, followed by a series of fun and interactive games that created a lively and comfortable environment for the audience.
One of the major highlights of the event was a series of thought-provoking skits performed by the interns of RLEK. Through simple, relatable situations, the performance highlighted how small everyday actions, such as switching off unused electrical appliances, preventing water wastage, and using fuel responsibly, can collectively contribute towards protecting the environment and ensuring a sustainable future. The message was well received and appreciated by all those present.
The awareness campaign continued with a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation that highlighted the growing need for resource conservation and outlined simple yet effective measures for adopting sustainable practices. The session emphasised that responsible consumption is not only beneficial for individual households but is also integral to long-term environmental protection and sustainable development.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, providing urban slum workers and domestic helpers with an opportunity to share their experiences, raise concerns, and exchange practical ideas on resource conservation.
One of the participants, Babita, also shared her reflections, expressing how the programme inspired them to adopt simple resource-conserving practices in their daily lives. They pledged to spread the message among their families, neighbours, and workplaces, demonstrating that meaningful change begins with small, conscious actions. Their voices reflected the programme’s lasting impact in fostering awareness, responsibility, and a collective commitment towards a more sustainable future.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Dr Daljeet Kaur, commended RLEK for its sustained efforts towards community awareness and capacity building. She emphasised that the conservation of natural resources is a collective responsibility and urged participants to adopt resource-efficient practices in their daily lives, noting that meaningful environmental change begins with informed and responsible individual action.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment by Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK) to continue undertaking community-based awareness initiatives that promote environmental responsibility and sustainable development. The event served as a significant step towards empowering communities with the knowledge and motivation to contribute to a more resource-conscious and sustainable future.
