Rs 3.17 Cr sanctioned for construction of toilets in state’s schools

Dehradun, 23 July: The Government of India has sanctioned an amount of Rs 3.17 crores to the state under the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan. With this amount released from the Swachh Bharat Kosh Trust (SBKT), toilets will be constructed and drinking water made available in various schools of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, the aspirational districts of the state.

State School Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat thanked the Prime Minister and the Union Education Minister for providing these funds to the state.

Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said that the state government is working on various aspects in view of cleanliness in the government schools. Construction of toilets in all government schools is also included. Minister Dr Rawat said that, last month, he spoke to the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, and proposed construction of toilets in every school of the state under the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan. Accepting this proposal, the Central Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 3.17 crores to the state from the Swachh Bharat Kosh Trust in the first phase. Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts of the state have been selected by the Government of India for this. Construction and repair work of toilets will be done in government schools of both the districts. Separate toilets will be arranged for boys and girls in each school, as well as drinking water will be made available. Departmental officers have been instructed to make available the list of schools so that toilets can be constructed in time.

Dr Rawat thanked the Prime Minister and the Union Education Minister for their cooperation.
