Dehradun / Kapurthala, 19 Dec: The Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), attended the Annual Day Event of Sainik School Kapurthala in Punjab on Friday as the Chief Guest. On this occasion, the Governor visited the cadets’ hostels, mess and other facilities, and shared his old memories. Notably, the Governor himself received his education from this very school.

Addressing the Annual Day function, the Governor said that Sainik School Kapurthala is not merely an educational institution, but a laboratory for nation-building, character formation and leadership development. He stated that Sainik School Kapurthala played a decisive role in shaping the direction of his life. It was on this campus that he imbibed the core values of discipline, dedication to duty, leadership and service to the nation, which inspired him to serve in the Indian Army.

The Governor said that the objective of Sainik Schools is to nurture youth who place the nation above all else and contribute to national security. Sainik School Kapurthala has successfully fulfilled this objective by providing numerous outstanding officers to the Armed Forces. He added that the school being honoured several times with the “Raksha Mantri Trophy” is a testament to its academic and military excellence.

Addressing the young cadets, the Governor said that today’s global scenario is changing rapidly and modern warfare is no longer confined to geographical boundaries. Cyber space, outer space, information systems and technology have emerged as new dimensions of national security. He urged the cadets to focus on the holistic development of their academic, technical and intellectual capabilities.

The Governor said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian Armed Forces are moving forward with renewed confidence through initiatives such as self-reliance, indigenous defence production, modern weapon systems and integrated commands. He emphasised that technology can serve national interest effectively only when it is guided by strong character and high moral values. Integrity, courage, discipline and leadership, he said, are the greatest contributions of Sainik Schools. The Governor also appreciated the role of parents and teachers of the cadets, stating that their sacrifice, patience and faith prepare these children for service to the nation.
