Dehradun, 3 Sept: The state government has approved an increase in the salary of contract-based super specialists in government medical colleges across the state. The new salary structure aims to resolve the shortage of faculty in super specialty and radiology departments at these colleges. The government has revised the salary scales for super specialists and radiologists in, both, the plains and hilly regions.

State Health and Medical Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat announced that the government has increased the salary for contract-based faculty in super specialty and radiology departments under the Medical Education Department. This move is expected to alleviate the faculty shortage in medical colleges in hilly areas. Dr Rawat stated that under the revised salary structure, super specialists in Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, and Radiology will receive increased pay. For the plains, the revised honorarium will be up to Rs 4 lakh for professors, Rs 3.2 lakh for associate professors, Rs 2.2 lakh for assistant professors, and Rs 1.5 lakh for senior residents. In hilly areas, the maximum honorarium will be Rs 5 lakh for professors, Rs 4 lakh for associate professors, Rs 3 lakh for assistant professors, and Rs 2 lakh for senior residents.

Additionally, there will be a provision for annual increases in honorarium based on performance evaluations, with 10% annual increments for assistant professors and senior residents showing exceptional performance, and 7% increments for associate professors and professors. The contract faculty will also receive incentive payments from claims under Ayushman Bharat, Atal Ayushman Uttarakhand Scheme, and state government health schemes. Faculty members are required to provide a three-month notice before resigning. Dr Rawat emphasised that the revised salaries will address the faculty shortage, especially in hilly areas, and ensure uninterrupted education for medical students.
