Every time Rahul Gandhi blames the umpires, the pitch, the weather conditions, the winning team, and the spectators for his party’s defeat in the game called politics, he reveals a mindset that is incapable of introspection. It is in the nature of feudal lords and narcissists to surround themselves with sycophants who lack the courage and the integrity to speak truth to them. It would seem that none of his mentors is helping overcome what are basically his own shortcomings as a leader.
Rahul Gandhi is at it again in the US, accusing the Election Commission of fudging facts and figures. Does he believe that going abroad and dissing his country goes down well with voters at home? There may be a lobby in the US that is pleased with the narrative he continues to set, as it can use it to justify anti-India activities. Although President Trump has put a spoke in their wheel, the deep state effort to manipulate Indian democracy and system will continue. The idea is to destabilise India so that it does not acquire the power it otherwise will in the next couple of decades. And what better than have a pliable stooge in power to serve their interests?
In actual fact, the Congress did pretty well in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is important for the party to examine how this happened and to further strengthen that process. It is not Rahul Gandhi’s supposed charisma that did the trick – it was the arithmetic of the INDI Alliance. The results catapulted him to the position of Leader of the Opposition, but reviving the party at the grassroots is a far more difficult challenge, because it would require it to take on the allies in their respective states. In the present situation, blaming the system will not help. The alliance leaders have a better grasp of the political reality than Rahul Gandhi has displayed, thus far. The ideology he has sought to promote is floundering in the states where the Congress is in power, revealing the inherent contradictions. While others are willing to bide their time, Rahul’s desperation can be understood as the shadow of a jail sentence is growing longer. He wishes to be rescued and seems to be willing to pay the price for it – but it is public opinion in India that matters, not in the USA. Like any good cricketer, only time spent in the nets will be of any use, if the performance is to improve.
