Mussoorie, 12 Jun: The joint initiative by the Municipal Council and the Sant Nirankari Mission to make Mussoorie clean and beautiful is yielding visible results. A special cleanliness drive, launched on World Environment Day (June 5), has been underway for a full week, with Mission volunteers spreading the message of cleanliness by cleaning various parts of the city. The campaign was initiated at the request of Meera Saklani, Chairperson of the Mussoorie Municipal Council. As part of this effort, Sant Nirankari Mission volunteers conducted extensive clean-up operations in areas including the stretch from Kutchery Road to Gun Hill Market, the area below ‘Chick Chocolate’, Landour Bazaar, South Road, the area beneath the railings on Camel’s Back Road, dumping zones, and the area below the Arya Samaj Mandir.

The volunteers not only collected and disposed of the waste but also raised awareness about cleanliness among locals and tourists. The drive targeted several locations where the long-term accumulation of garbage and debris was adversely affecting both the environment and the town’s aesthetic appeal.

Expressing her gratitude to Harbhajan Singh (Zonal In-charge of the Sant Nirankari Mission) and all the volunteers, Municipal Council Chairperson Meera Saklani stated that maintaining the cleanliness of a tourist town like Mussoorie is not solely the administration’s responsibility but a duty shared by every member of society. She emphasised that the dream of a clean and beautiful Mussoorie cannot be realised without public participation. She added that the dedication and spirit of service demonstrated by the Sant Nirankari Mission volunteers throughout this week-long campaign serve as an inspiration for other social organisations and citizens alike.
