Mussoorie, 23 Nov: Under the guidance of SSP, Tehri, Tripti Bhatt, a five-day self-defence training programme was started by the Muni-ki-Reti police station. Self-defence training programmes are being organized in the district under the guidance of the New Tehri women’s helpline.
Under the supervision of Kamal Mohan Bhandari, Inspector-in-Charge, Muni Ki Reti, self-defence training is being imparted to the girl students of Saraswati Balika Inter College, Dhalwala, by instructor Naveen Dayal. Inspector Bhandari said that the workshop has been organised with the aim of boosting the morale and capabilities of women. He said that crime against women has increased. In metro cities, small towns or villages, women do not feel safe to go out alone. They are given security by their families and relatives, but those who have to go out alone everyday to places like school, college and office, need to know how to protect themselves. There are many such techniques of self defence. It is necessary to have faith in oneself first. Even if one does not know martial arts, it is possible to protect oneself by learning kicks, punches, elbow and knee strikes, open hand techniques. He exhorted the women to exercise regularly. Women should learn Taekwondo. It would make them more independent.
