Pithoragarh, 22 May: A seminar on the theme, “Strategic Culture in India’s Neighbourhood: Continuities, Contradictions and Contemporary Implications” was conducted at Pithoragarh. The seminar was organised to promote informed deliberations on evolving strategic thought in India’s neighborhood and its implications for regional stability and national security. The seminar was organised by Central Command, Indian Army and Dehradun based think tank BHISM.

The seminar formed part of an ongoing series of professional military education initiatives aimed at enhancing strategic awareness, analytical thinking and intellectual preparedness amongst the officers of Central Command, the students of the SSJ University, Almora, and NCC Cadets who attended. Such engagements provide a platform for the study of historical patterns, doctrinal approaches and contemporary developments that influence the security environment in India’s neighborhood.

Senior military officers, subject matter experts and scholars participated in the seminar under the aegis of BHISM. The deliberations focused on the evolution of strategic cultures in the region, the historical foundations and the manner in which traditional thought, political behaviour and statecraft continue to shape contemporary policy choices.

The seminar also examined the present-day implications of regional strategic behavior, including border management, military posturing, grey zone challenges, information influence, infrastructure development and competition for regional influence. Speakers emphasised the need for a calibrated, informed and proactive approach to address emerging security challenges while strengthening India’s strategic resilience.

An important highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Panchshul Brigade and Soban Singh Jeena University of Almora. The MoU aims to promote academic collaboration. Knowledge exchange and capacity building, thereby contributing to the intellectual and policy ecosystem of the region.

The seminar concluded with a reaffirmation of the importance of such initiatives in developing strategic foresight, encouraging critical thinking and reinforcing preparedness to meet emerging challenges in an increasingly complex security environment.
