Two arrested over assault on tourists in Rishikesh under Operation Prahar

Dehradun, 22 May: Police in Rishikesh have arrested two accused in connection with the assault on tourists at Kale Ki Dhal under Operation Prahar. The incident had occurred on 20 May when Satveer, son of Deva Singh from village Buchchi in Kaithal district of Haryana, had lodged a written complaint at Kotwali Rishikesh stating that he had come to Rishikesh with his companions in a Hyundai Venue car bearing registration number HR-08-AL-9393. During their visit, a misunderstanding with a woman near Kale Ki Dhal led to a crowd gathering, after which some people reportedly assaulted the complainant and his companions, causing injuries to them and major damage to their vehicle. On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered under sections 109(1), 191(2), 117(2), 351(3), 352 and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Taking the seriousness of the matter into account, the SSP, Dehradun, Pramendra Dobal directed Kotwali Rishikesh to form a police team to arrest those involved in the assault. Acting on the local intelligence and information gathered from the informers, the team raided Bharat Vihar Truck Union parking area today and arrested two accused persons. Efforts are continuing to apprehend other named and unidentified persons involved in the incident. The arrested have been identified as Ashok Thapa, son of late Narbahadur, resident of Gali No 02, Kale Ki Dhal, IDPL, Rishikesh, and Naresh Kashyap, son of late Natthu Singh, resident of Kale Ki Dhal, IDPL, Rishikesh.

The police team that arrested the accused comprised Sub-Inspector Nikhilesh Singh Bisht, Constables Dinesh Mahar, Tejpal, driver Constable Jayveer, Constable Vikas Rana and Constable Ashutosh. The Police also claimed that further raids are being conducted to ensure the arrest of all those involved in the assault case.
