Haridwar, 5 Jan: A violent clash erupted between two groups in Bodaheri village under the Pathri police station area of Haridwar district yesterday, leaving six persons injured after heavy stone pelting from both sides. The confrontation, reportedly triggered by a long-standing enmity, escalated into a bloody struggle as bricks and stones were hurled for a considerable duration. The Police rushed to the spot upon receiving information and restored order by using mild force to disperse the crowd. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while the search for others is underway.
Videos of the clash have gone viral on social media, showing the village road strewn with bricks and stones. The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Jabbar, alias Monu, and Musarrat, both residents of Bodaheri. They have been booked for breach of peace and the police teams are actively pursuing the remaining accused.
According to police, the two groups had a history of rivalry in Bodaheri village. On Sunday, a fresh dispute over an undisclosed matter brought both factions face-to-face and the situation quickly deteriorated as large number of people from the both sides gathered. The confrontation began with a physical brawl, with people from both the sides exchanging blows, before escalating into stone pelting that left several injured.
Amid the chaos, the villagers recorded the incident on their mobile phones and the footage is now circulating online and it depicts a tense atmosphere with people hurling stones and shouting abuses.
A police force led by Pathri SHO Manoj Nautiyal reached the scene soon after being alerted. On seeing the police, many participants fled, while some were detained on the spot. Nautiyal confirmed that the clash stemmed from a chronic rivalry and stated that the police acted immediately to bring the situation under control. He added that suspects taken into custody are being interrogated, and for the sake of security, a police contingent has been deployed in the village to maintain peace.
