“Smart India Hackathon” to be held at GEU

DEHRADUN, 1 Mar: The Union Ministry has chosen Graphic Era Deemed University as the nodal centre for world’s Biggest Open Innovation Model, “Smart India Hackathon 2019”. Smart India Hackathon will begin on 2 March in Graphic Era University. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the participants through video conferencing and Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar will inaugurate the grand finale through video conferencing.
Prime Minister Modi will interact with the participating Engineering students through video conferencing on 2 March. The Grand Finale will be conducted across 48 centres simultaneously throughout the Nation. Graphic Era along with other four centres has been chosen for live interaction with the Prime Minister.
The programme will also comprise a video speech by Prof Anil Sahastrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, and R Subramanyam, Secretary, MHRD.
This is for the first time in history that any University from Uttarakhand has been chosen by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for such a grand event. Smart India Hackathon 2019 is a non-stop digital product development competition, where digital problems will be posed to engineering students on innovative solutions. A total of 169 organisations from across the country are participating in this event, out of which 28 teams will participate in Graphic Era University. Every team will have 6 participants and 2 mentors.
MHRD had previously invited nationwide industries to share their problem statements and students will be asked to solve the same in 36 hours. The non-stop software development competition will provide software solutions to difficult industrial problems. Senior professors from the field of Information Technology will test the software solutions for applicability.
In Graphic Era, problems from Bharat Electrical limited (BEL), GAIL, Skipper Ceil and MSME, Jaipur, Rajasthan will be solved by students from 8 a.m. on 2 March to 9 p.m., 3 March. Preparations for this national event are underway at a grand scale in Graphic Era University.
