Mussoorie, 8 Feb: The second snowfall of the season in Mussoorie has brought down temperatures, intensifying cold conditions in town, due to which people are facing lots of problems. The snowfall in Mussoorie and nearby areas has paralysed normal life and people are having to stay indoors and lights fires to stay warm.
The Mussoorie markets wore a deserted look as residents remained indoors in view of the chilly weather. On the other hand, tourists were a delighted lot at seeing the snowfall and were frolicking in the snow. Due to strong winds and snow, a huge old tree fell damaging three cars parked under it near the Mussoorie Club Hotel. The roof of a shop owned by D Kharola was blown away, due to which the material kept in the shop was damaged.
Locals said that, even earlier, many dried up trees have fallen in various areas of Mussoorie but the administration was not paying attention to the danger. People have asked the department concerned and forest officials to take action on removing such trees from populated areas of the town so that accidents may be averted.
Tourists said they had come only for two days but, after the snowfall, they would extend their holidays, enjoying the snow and visiting the nearby areas. The business community has welcomed the second snowfall as due to it the tourism would get a boost. The vegetable farmers have welcomed the snowfall but are worried about the hail damaging their crops.
Instructions had been issued by the District Magistrate to close all the schools as the probability had been expressed by the Met Department of heavy snowfall and rain in the region. Many students were not informed by the school administration and they had to return after turning up for classes. The parents were not happy as their children had to face lots of problem in the snow and chilly temperature.
