Sobhan Singh Jeena University VC briefs Gov on Research Initiative

Dehradun, 14 Feb: In the presence of Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), the Vice Chancellor of Sobhan Singh Jeena University, Prof Satpal Singh Bisht, gave a presentation at the Raj Bhavan on the progress of research being conducted under the “One University-One Research” initiative. The university is conducting research on the topic “Centre of Excellence in GIS”.

Prof Bisht explained that Geographic Information System (GIS) technology can make disaster management, environmental conservation, water resource management, and urban planning more scientific and accurate, especially in hill states like Uttarakhand. This technology can also aid in disaster prevention and quick relief efforts. He further mentioned that GIS can be effective in monitoring forest areas, mapping water sources, and urban development planning. He also shared details of the work done so far.

The Governor emphasised that GIS-based studies could significantly enhance administrative and developmental activities in Uttarakhand. He instructed the Vice Chancellor to conduct more in-depth research on the subject. He mentioned that, in a hill state like Uttarakhand, GIS could be used to strengthen policy decisions, ensure smart planning, and accelerate sustainable development. The Governor also stated that the effective outcomes of this research could lead to advancements in e-Governance (GIS-based governance).

The presentation was attended by Additional Secretary to the Governor, Swati S Bhadoria, and Prof JS Rawat from the university.
