Social organisations discuss issues related to Consumer Rights

Dehradun, 24 Dec: A large number of members from various organisations assembled today at the Doon Club under the aegis of Brig KG Behl (Retd) President, All India Consumer Council, Sanyukt Nagrik Sangathan and DCC, on the occasion of National Consumer Day.

Brig Behl explained the functioning of the system and pointed out that 11 out of 13 district consumer courts are not functional as their presidents have not been appointed by the government. He also suggested that the president should not be relieved till the new one joins so that the courts continue functioning. He also mentioned that one does not become a consumer without the receipt.

Retired Justice PC Agrawal, who was the Chief Guest, highlighted the working of the courts and the benefits.

Members explained the various problems being faced by the public needing attention, especially the working of the Smart City, hospitals and supply of medicine for which joint memorandum of 33 points had already been submitted to the VC, MDDA.

Sushil Tyagi, Secretary of Sanyukt Nagrik Sangathan, mentioned the letter received from the Smart City authorities and asked all the members to comment so that a suitable reply could be given.

Colonel BM Thapa (Retd) Vice President Sanyukt Nagrik Sangathan and DESL, proposed the vote of thanks and assured suitable action would be taken on all points raised during the meeting.
