DEHRADUN, 5 Feb: Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, an Odissi Folk Dance form, ‘Gotipua’, was performed by a team from Konark Natya Mandap, Bhubaneswar.
The dance performance was immensely enjoyed by the audience. The flawless body movements and postures of the artists enthralled everyone present. The venue was filled with delighted applause.
Gotipua is a traditional dance form which is performed in praise of Bhagwan Jagannath or Krishna in the state of Odissa. It is the precursor of Odissi classical dance. It has been performed in the state for centuries by young boys.
On the occasion, one of the students, Shivangi, said, “Such dance forms are a symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage. They should be promoted in order to continue with and take forward the legacy of India. I loved every bit of the show.”
The Konark Natya Mandap team will also perform at Gyananda School, Dolphin Institute and College of Engineering, Roorkee, in the coming days.
