DEHRADUN, 6 Feb: The ‘Annual Book Exhibition’ held at the Bidholi Campus of the University of Petroleum & Energy Sciences during January-February is an eagerly awaited event for thousands of book lovers. Students, researchers and faculty throng the exhibition arena in the campus for two days to select books that have been put on exhibit not only for themselves, personally, but also to recommend the relevant books for inclusion in the library as reference and course books. Going by the ever-growing response to the exhibition, the 9th Edition of the Book Exhibition was held simultaneously in both campuses of UPES for the first time this year on 4 & 5 February. It witnessed participation by 55 major international and national publishers such as Taylor & Francis; Pearson; Wiley; Cambridge; Oxford; Bloomsbury; Walter Kluver and many more.
Dr Deependra Jha, Vice Chancellor, UPES, inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of Dr Veena Dutta, Registrar, Arun Dhand, Dr Ranjan Sinha Thakur, Chief Librarian, UPES, and many other senior faculty and students.
Dr Jha said, “I am glad to learn that the participation by international and national exhibitors has almost doubled from last year’s 29 to 55 this year. Such exhibitions are always constructive for the students, faculty and also in improving the Library collection of the University.” Briefing the media on the event, Arun Dhand, Sr Director, Public Affairs, shared that such exhibitions assist in inculcating reading habits among students.
Overjoyed with the success of the exhibition, evident from the massive footfall at the venue, Chief Librarian Dr Thakur shared that “This is the first time that an exhibition of such magnitude has been organised by the university at both our campuses, together. The participation of fifty-five reputed distributors and publishers has added further to the event that has not only turned out to be a hub for book sellers, authors and publishers, but also a book lovers’ paradise with the availability of endless collection of reading material.” A wide range of books covering Engineering, Management, Law and various other topics was exhibited during the two-day event.
The exhibition was organised successfully under the mentorship of Dr Thakur and his team, which included Dr PP Sati, Sr Associate Librarian; KK Lal, Associate Librarian, and Praveen Kapoor, Associate Librarian.
