Dehradun, 1 May: Kasiga School hosted ‘Folk Vibes’, an Inter-School Folk Dance Competition in commemoration of International Dance Day, on 29 April.
Folk Dance forms reflect the life of people of a certain region or country and are usually a recreational expression of the past or present culture. Each participating school was to send a dance ensemble in costumes that aligned with the prepared folk dance form to be judged by a panel of three judges, Sweety, Kathak Dancer, Vidisha Aggarwal, Bharat Natyam Dancer, and Arshpreet Kaur, Bhangra Dancer. This year, a total of thirteen schools participated, namely Welham Girls’ School, YPS Patiala, Wynberg Allen School, Mussoorie, DPS Dehradun, Ecole Globale International School, Unison World School and the Tons Bridge School, etc.
Each school’s troupe brought their unique style and interpretation to the stage, making the competition a vibrant and exciting event.
The young St Jude’s troupe of 15 dancers performed ‘Gato Dandia Raas’. The troupe comprised students Ashmit Verma, Priyansh Prakash, Manvendra Singh Rajpurohit, Anshuman Sharma, Kshitiz Walia, Mridul Lohani, Vaishnavi Chandel, Aadya Mishra, Aanchal Rawat, Aaditri Dharmvanshi, Kritika Lohani, Anshika Bajaj, Anshika Aggarwal, Ridima Tyagi and Anushka Singh, who were adjudged the winners.
They impressed the judges with their exceptional technique, staggering moves and outstanding originality. The Tons Bridge School was adjudged the 1st Runners Up, followed by the Unison World School and the Ecole Globale International Girls School, which were both declared the 2nd Runners Up.
The St Jude’s team was trained by Shama Kukreja (dance teacher).
