New DGP outlines priorities for Uttarakhand

Dehradun, 25 Nov: Newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP), Uttarakhand, Deepam Seth today outlined his priorities regarding the future challenges of the Uttarakhand Police after taking over. He listed the strengthening of law and order as his top priority, with special initiatives to ensure the safety and security of women and children. Special efforts will be made towards effective control of crimes. He emphasised that strict action would be taken against the smuggling of narcotics in the state. Seth added that strengthening cybersecurity would also be a high priority on his list. He stated that policing will be made more transparent and more oriented towards public interest. He claimed that efficient traffic management will be ensured during his tenure, along with effective measures to prevent or curb road accidents. Lastly, he mentioned that sincere efforts will be made to upgrade and strengthen preparedness for disaster management.

Deepam Seth was born in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. He received his senior secondary education from Sherwood College, Nainital, and subsequently earned an engineering degree from BITS Pilani. He entered the IPS in 1995 as a UP cadre officer, later transferring to the Uttarakhand cadre. His dedication to studies led him to obtain a Masters’ degree in Police Management from Osmania University in 1997 and a PhD from IIT Roorkee in 2022 while in Police service. The topic of his PhD thesis was: “Impact of Strategic Planning and Communication on Team Effectiveness – A Study of Policing of Mega Events.”
Seth has served in various capacities, including as SP in Tehri Garhwal and Jyotiba Phule Nagar (UP); Commandant, PAC 41 Battalion in Meerut; as Project Manager with the UN Peace Mission in Kosovo; SSP Nainital; as DIG Garhwal and DIG Crime and Law & Order; as IG Crime and Law & Order; as IG Special Task Force at PHQ; IG with ITBP and as Director General of ITBP in New Delhi. His last posting on deputation was as ADG SSB before returning to his home cadre and taking over as DGP. He has been honoured with the Bhubananda Misra Memorial Trophy (SVPNA) and Esprit de Corps Medal in 1996, the UN Medal for his service in Kosovo in 2004, the Union Home Minister’s Special Operations Medal in 2021 for his role in Operation Snow Leopard, and several other honours and medals, including the President’s Police Medal in 2021.
