DEHRADUN, 4 Jul: Congress spokesperson Sujata Paul has raised serious concerns over allegations of irregularities and theft in donations and offerings at Badrinath shrine. In a statement issued on Saturday, she described the allegations as deeply disturbing and damaging to Uttarakhand’s image and the credibility of religious institutions. She said the sanctity, transparency and accountability of temple management must be ensured under all the circumstances, and that internal inquiries alone cannot suffice when the allegations involve those responsible for the system itself.
Paul demanded that an FIR be registered immediately and the investigation entrusted to an independent agency, with the temple committee kept away from the process to guarantee impartiality and freedom from pressure. She criticised the BJP government for remaining silent when corruption and mismanagement charges surface in temple affairs, questioning how oversight mechanisms failed and why no independent probe has yet been ordered.
