Dehradun, 10 Sep: A four-day training programme for the executives of South Eastern Coalfields Limited, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, related to Forest Rules, Ecology and Biodiversity started at Indian Council of Forestry, Research & Education (ICFRE), here, today. The SECL is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, Union Ministry of Coal.
The training programme is being organised by the Environment Management Division, Directorate of Extension, ICFRE.
The event was inaugurated by Kanchan Devi, Director General, ICFRE. On the occasion, Dr Sudhir Kumar, Deputy Director General (Extn), ICFRE and ADGs, Scientists of ICFRE and others were present.
The Director General, in her inaugural address, emphasised the need for scientific methods to eco-restore coal mined-out areas for holistic and sustainable management of the environment.
Dr Sudhir Kumar, DDG (Extn), ICFRE, spoke about the importance of Forest ecology and biodiversity in relation to coal mining activities. He also emphasised understanding the role of different floral and faunal communities in the environment and ways of protecting them. Dr AN Singh, ADG (EM), ICFRE, and Course Coordinator briefed about the 4- day training programme and topics to be covered. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Vishavjit Kumar, Senior Scientist from Environment Management Division of ICFRE.
During the training programme from 10 to13 September, eminent experts are scheduled to deliver lectures on various topics covering Forest Rules, Ecology and Biodiversity Assessment, Nursery and Plantation Techniques for De-coaled Areas, Eco-restoration of Coal Mined Out Areas, Carbon Capture and Carbon Market, Green Credit initiatives by India will be covered. Apart from technical sessions, field visits/demonstrations related to the topics and eco-rehabilitation sites, FRI Museums, Botanical Garden, Central Nursery, etc., are also scheduled.
