Dehradun, 6 Jul: Reviewing the construction of the bus stations under construction in Ramnagar and Tanakpur under the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation, the State Transport Minister, Pradeep Batra, during a meeting with department officials, stated today that approximately 70 percent of the construction work at these stations has been completed. He directed officials to complete the remaining work as soon as possible.
The Transport Minister stated that coordination between the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation and the Transport Department has led to an increase in transport revenue in recent years. He stated that the Transport Corporation has earned approximately Rs 8 crore so far during this Chardham Yatra season. Referring to the fare reduction on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, he said that this move has made Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses the preferred choice of passengers.
The Minister stated that the aim is to rescue the Transport Corporation from losses. He added that, soon, 50 new minibuses of the Transport Corporation will be operational on the narrow hill routes, making travel even easier and more convenient. He also directed an increase in charging stations for electric buses. He said that Uttarakhand will soon receive a fleet of approximately 140 electric buses from the Government of India, which will boost public transportation.
The Minister stated that the department is simplifying ticket processing. He added that the department is also providing the facility to book tickets through CSC centres. He also stated that Transport Department offices are being upgraded. The Minister added that an action plan has been developed for the operation of city buses in every district of the state, which would greatly facilitate the public. He also discussed in detail bus repairs, the condition of bus depots, the progress of phasing out old buses, staff recruitment, the physical condition of bus stations, drinking water, toilets, online booking, the status of passenger complaint resolution, technological upgrades, and future models.
Member of the Transport Corporation Authority, Sanjay Arora, MD of the Transport Corporation, Reena Joshi, Deputy Commissioner Sunil Sharma, GM Anil Singh Garbyal, and other departmental officials were present at the meeting.
