Tremors felt in Uttarkashi, Bageshwar

Dehradun, 29 Aug: Tremors were felt in Uttarkashi this afternoon while, earlier in the day, tremors of mild intensity were also felt in Bageshwar. According to the local people, a strong tremor was felt at around 4.56 p.m. in Uttarkashi. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 2.8 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of the earthquake has been stated to be five km below the ground. As per the reports reaching here, tremors were felt in Maneri area including the district headquarters. No loss of life or property was reported from anywhere. At the same time, earlier this morning, another quake was recorded in Uttarakhand. Tremors were felt in Bageshwar at 10:22 a.m. The intensity was recorded at 2.5 on the Richter scale, which is considered to be of mild intensity.

It may be recalled that most of Uttarakhand falls in Zone 4 and Zone 5, which are considered to be extremely sensitive and vulnerable in terms of earthquakes and the state does witness frequent occurrences of tremors of various intensities.
