Mussoorie, 21 Oct: Police Martyrs’ Day was celebrated with great reverence and respect at the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Academy, here, today.
On this occasion, Chief Guest DIG Nishith Chandra, Deputy Director (Administration), ITBP Academy, paid homage to the immortal martyrs of the country by laying a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial in the academy campus. During the programme, the names of all the brave officers of the State Police Forces and Central Armed Police Forces across the country who were martyred in the line of duty from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025, were read out. Following this, all the officers and personnel of the academy observed a two-minute silence and paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs.
Nishith Chandra said, “Today, on this auspicious occasion of Police Martyrs’ Day, we have all gathered to remember the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the internal security of the country.”
On 21 October 1959, ten CRPF personnel were martyred while defending the border in the Hot Springs area of Ladakh. To commemorate their indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice, this day is celebrated every year as “Police Martyrs’ Day”.
He further stated that during the year 2024-25, brave soldiers from several state police forces and Central Armed Police Forces laid down their lives in the service of the nation. Deep gratitude was expressed to them on this occasion, and a pledge was made to fulfil duties with loyalty, valour, and dedication, inspired by their ideals. At the end of the ceremony, all officers and personnel present took an oath to remain dedicated to the unity, integrity, and security of the nation. The ITBP Academy family expressed deep condolences to the families of the martyrs and pledged to always remember their sacrifice. Senior officers and subordinate officers of the Academy, including Vipin Joshi, 2nd Command/GD, Durgesh Chandra Dangwal, 2nd Command/GD, and Himveer soldiers were present on the occasion.
