DEHRADUN, 27 Jan: India’s 70th Republic Day was celebrated at St Joseph’s Academy, here. The Chief Guest was Col Deepak Joshi, an alumnus of the 1989 batch of SJA. The programme started with Sanya Bisht leading everyone in prayer. Sneha Gupta delivered an emphatic speech about the significance of Republic Day and evoked a strong feeling of patriotism in one and all. A melodious rendition of patriotic songs like “Salaam India” and “Kadam Kadam” filled the audience with zeal.
A Power Point presentation enlightened everyone on how the world’s largest constitution came into being and how India became a Republic. Taneesh Arora delivered a speech in Hindi and encouraged everyone to be a better citizen. The choir from The Patrician College for Women presented “Chhoro kal ki baatein”, leaving everyone enthralled. Thereafter, Sidhi Verma aroused a feeling of patriotism in everybody through the recitation of a beautiful Hindi poem, “He Bharat ke Raam Jago..” written by Ashutosh Rana.
The students of Class IX regaled the audience with their dance performance to the foot-tapping number, “Mera Joota Hai Japani..”.
Chief Guest Col Deepak Joshi motivated the young Josephites to achieve their goals and turn their dreams into a reality through his speech, which received a huge round of applause.
The programme culminated with a message by the Principal, Bro Babu Varghese, who reiterated the importance of being a responsible citizen. The comperes of the day were Jahnavi Bhatia, Nehal Kala and Rhea Sabharwal.
