UCOST organises Pre-Summit on Disaster Management at Mumbai

DEHRADUN, 22 Mar: The Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST) organized the second Pre-Summit on Disaster Management at the World Trade Center, Mumbai on Saturday. The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in the esteemed presence of Maharashtra’s Minister of Forest and Environment Ganesh Naik, and Durgesh Pant, Director General, UCOST.

During the event, Maharashtra’s Minister of Forest and Environment Ganesh Naik, extended his congratulations to Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami, on the successful completion of three years of the state government. He also appreciated the development initiatives undertaken by the Uttarakhand government. Naik emphasized the purity of the holy Ganga, which originates from Uttarakhand and continues to preserve the essence of Sanatan Dharma. Additionally, he praised the swift and effective disaster response efforts undertaken across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted how Modi has always stood with state governments in times of disaster, offering unwavering support in terms of resources, strategy, and financial aid.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister extended his best wishes for the pre-conference through a video message and congratulated UCOST and all the organizers for holding a workshop on such a crucial subject.

Expressing gratitude to Ganesh Naik, Durgesh Pant emphasized that hosting this Pre-Summit on Disaster Management in Mumbai aimed to foster scientific and technological collaboration with disaster-prone states. He acknowledged the proactive efforts of the Uttarakhand government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dhami, in disaster management and preparedness. He further stated that Uttarakhand frequently faces natural disasters, and the state government has been consistently working toward effective mitigation and preparedness.

Experts and scientists from central government institutions and academic organizations across the country participated in the event and shared their insights and experiences on various aspects of disaster management through dedicated sessions.

Several renowned institutions, including the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Strategic Venue, Vitray, and the World Trade Center Mumbai, played a significant role in this summit.

This Pre-Summit on Disaster Management proved to be a crucial step in promoting a strong scientific and technological approach to disaster mitigation, not only for Uttarakhand but for the entire nation.

Programme convenor Prahlad Adhikari and media coordinator Amit Pokhriyal, Public Relations Manager, UCOST, stated that in disaster-prone states like Uttarakhand, such summits will undoubtedly lead to meaningful discussions and valuable recommendations that will contribute to disaster management efforts.
