U’khand Eye Doctors’ meeting focuses on latest treatments for Glaucoma & Cataract

Dehradun, 16 Jun: A one day conference focusing on the most common eye diseases in the elderly like Cataract and Glaucoma was organised by Uttarakhand State Ophthalmological Society (UKSOS) for Eye Surgeons at a local hotel, today.
The objective of this conference was to update eye doctors of Uttarakhand and surrounding regions on the latest advances in Cataract and Glaucoma surgery, disclosed Dr Saurabh Luthra, President, Dehradun Ophthalmic Society.
The conference turned out to be a huge success, with almost 120 Eye Surgeons attending the meeting, at which Guest Speakers of national repute included renowned Dr Partha Biswas, Chairman, Academics and Research (ARC), All India Ophthalmic Society (AIOS); Professor Dr JS Titiyal, Head of Cornea & Refractive Surgery, AIIMS, New Delhi.
Around 50 Post Graduates, budding Eye Surgeons, participated in various programmes such as presentations in Cataract & Glaucoma, Glaucoma Debate, Ophthal Quiz, (SSTC) Surgical Skill Transfer Courses and attended guest lectures by highly experienced speakers like Dr Amit Porwal, Member Central Zone AIOS ARC; Dr AK Khurana, Rohtak, and Dr Prashant Bawankule, Nagpur, who spoke on various topics on Cataract and Glaucoma.
A special Wet Lab session was also organised for the Young Ophthalmologists at Drishti Eye Institute.
The highlight of this conference was display of “NGENUITY” system, which allows Eye Surgeons to perform microsurgery with a 3 Dimensional “Virtual Reality” experience, without looking through an operating microscope. This technology is likely to revolutionise eye surgery in the near future, explained Dr Gaurav Luthra, Honorary Secretary, UKSOS.
Other dignitaries present at the event included senior members and office bearers of Uttarakhand Ophthalmological Society including Dr MC Luthra, Dr Rajesh Tewari, Dr BK Oli, Dr Vinod Arora, Dr Manisha Gupta, Dr Renu Dhasmana, Dr Dinesh Sharma, Dr GS Titiyal and several others.
