U’khand Police seeks help from 5 states in effective combating of cybercrime

Dehradun, 9 Oct: In an important initiative to strengthen the anti-cybercrime system of Uttarakhand Police to tackle the increasing challenges, Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar, has written to the DGPs of five states, namely Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh seeking detailed information on the steps being taken in their states for effective control of cybercrimes. According to official sources in the state police, this step is part of efforts to improve the prevention and management of cybercrimes in Uttarakhand.

The letter written by DGP Kumar has sought detailed information on cybercrimes registered under the Information Technology Act, 2000, as well as other related crimes under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and BNS (Bureau of National Security) over the past three years. He has requested each state’s DGP to provide numerical details to facilitate a comparative analysis of cybercrimes.

Kumar has also sought detailed information regarding the mechanisms established at the police station level, district level, and state level for the control of cybercrimes, including information on the establishment of cybercrime units, appointment of trained personnel, and the availability of technical resources at their disposal.

The DGP has further sought information on the protocols and arrangements adopted to deal with major cyber crises such as attacks on critical infrastructure, data breaches, and ransomware incidents. Additionally, he also has sought details on crisis management teams and partnerships with private sector experts or national agencies.

Commenting on the initiative taken by him, DGP Abhinav Kumar stated that this is aimed at taking necessary steps to establish effective control over cybercrimes in Uttarakhand. Based on the information received from other states, the Uttarakhand Police will also like to make necessary improvements and changes in its approach to tackling cybercrimes. He added that this mutual cooperation will prove to be an important step in addressing the challenge of cybercrimes among states and will help control emerging threats in this area more effectively.

DGP reviews progress of cases pending with Economic Offences Wing

Dehradun, 9 Oct: Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar conducted a detailed review of the actions taken in pending cases related to CBCID and EOW (Economic Offence Wing), here, today.  During the review, the officers in charge of the Dehradun and Haldwani sectors of CBCID shared factual updates with the DGP regarding progress of the investigations pending in their respective sectors. They also presented a detailed account of the actions taken by the investigating teams in their sectors in these cases.

The DGP instructed the officers to ensure prompt resolution of the pending investigations. He also directed that rewards be also announced for the wanted accused, and effective advocacy ensured in the respective courts to secure maximum punishment for the accused. In addition, he also emphasised making every possible effort to ensure quality investigations and effective supervision in each case. The meeting was also attended by ADG, CBCID, V Murugesan, IG, CBCID, Narayan Singh Napalchyal, SP, CBCID, Yashwant Chauhan and other senior police officers.
