CM pays tribute to martyrs of statehood movement

Mussoorie, 2 Sep: On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Mussoorie firing incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the Shaheed Smarak here and paid homage to the martyrs of the statehood movement and paid floral tributes before their statues.

On this occasion, the statehood agitationists expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for implementing the system of 10 percent horizontal reservation in government jobs for them and their dependants.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister noted that a large number of those who participated in the statehood agitation had sacrificed everything without caring for their lives. He said that the state government is working to fulfil the dreams of the martyrs and other agitationists of the statehood movement. He also reminded that the Khatima incident took place on 1 September and Mussoorie firing incident on 2 September, while the Rampur Tiraha incident had occurred on 2 October. These three days are recorded as black chapters in the history of the state. He said that the people of the state can never forget the supreme sacrifice of its immortal martyrs. The Chief Minister said that the then government of undivided UP did everything possible to brutally crush the peaceful movement for the creation of Uttarakhand.

The Chief Minister added that the dream of the martyred agitationists was to create an Uttarakhand where everyone gets equal rights. The state government is moving forward with this goal. The CM reminded that Uttarakhand has secured the number one position in the recently released ranking of Sustainable Development Goals of Niti Aayog. Along with development in the state, special attention is also being paid to environmental balance. The GEP concept has been initiated in the state.

Dhami said that, to make this decade the decade of Uttarakhand, work is being done rapidly in every field. In the coming ten years, Uttarakhand would be at the peak of its development and progress. For this, work is being done with the coordination of ecology and economy. He said that the government has expressed gratitude to the statehood agitationists and has implemented the system of 10 percent horizontal reservation for them and their dependants. He also reminded them that the statehood agitationists are also being paid pension.

The Chief Minister said that women in the state had played a big role in the statehood movement. In view of this, the state government has decided to give 30 percent reservation to women in the government services. A strict anti-copying law has been implemented. More than 100 copying mafia operators have been sent behind bars. Apart from this, strict laws have been brought to stop forced religious conversion in the state, and an anti-riot law has also been implemented. Strict action has been taken against land jihad to ensure that the demography of the state does not change.
