UNDP to provide U’khand technical support

Dehradun, 3 Jul: The Uttarakhand Government, through various central and state flagship schemes, is addressing the complex challenges of migration, unemployment, recurrent and severe ecological disasters that the mountain state faces. Under a comprehensive, medium term state level engagement strategy agreed at the highest levels in, both, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Uttarakhand, UNDP is providing techno-managerial support to implement various flagship schemes and programmes and externally aided projects.
Shoko Noda, the new Resident Representative (UNDP) and Dr Rakesh Kumar, Additional Country Director, held a meeting with Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, on Monday. During the meeting, the Chief Minister appreciated UNDP’s engagement and sought further cooperation pertaining to technical support and skilled human resources for the schemes implemented in the state in the field of natural and zero budget farming, tourism, and waste management.  The Chief Minister said that the state had adequate sources of income available but, to increase them, there was need for technical assistance from UNDP.
Noda said she was extremely happy and grateful for the robust partnership between UNDP and the State Government and hoped that the Chief Minister would continue to extend support and guidance. She said that UNDP as a development partner of choice would like to consistently support the State in achieving sustainable inclusive growth. She expressed gratitude for the State Government’s partnership, support and friendship and assured that UNDP would continue to provide technical assistance to the State Government.
Additional Country Director Rakesh Kumar said that, in the field of natural farming models, necessary efforts would be made by UNDP to provide technical support and undertaking pilot projects wherever necessary. The Chief Minister said he was highly appreciative of the technical support being provided by UNDP in the fields of rural development and SDG implementation and implementation of several externally aided projects.
