Dehradun, 1 Feb: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described the Union Budget 2023 presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as a historic one. He was speaking informally with media persons after the presentation of the Union Budget.

Dhami stated that the new budget had been dedicated by the Modi Government to the middle class of the country. He added that the budget is clearly growth oriented and it would promote development in all the sectors of the economy including agriculture. It is a budget symbolic of the Amrit Kaal of the country.

The CM said, “The Union Budget 2023-24, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the leadership of Narendra Modi is an all-encompassing and inclusive budget of Amrit Kaal, giving a new strength to the great resolve of a developed India. Promoting the development of tourism and border areas including natural agriculture and start-ups related to them, this budget will certainly play an important role in making Uttarakhand one of the best states by 2025.” The CM said that it would also promote rapid development in border states like Uttarakhand.

The CM added he was grateful to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister for the budget centred on public welfare. It is bound to give concrete shape to the expectations of 130 crore people of the country during the Amrit Kaal and, for this, the PM and the FM both deserved to be congratulated. This budget would certainly live up to the expectations of the people of the country as well as the world.

Uttarakhand Finance Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal said the budget presented by the Union Finance Minister is very balanced and the new tax regime is far more attractive and practical. Praising the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister for an ‘inclusive budget’, Aggarwal said that Uttarakhand has good reasons to be happy with the budget. The outlay for states has been increased in the Union Budget and Uttarakhand is a direct beneficiary. The central outlay to Uttarakhand has increased by several thousand crores rupees. He added that, under direct taxes, much awaited relief has been provided in the Income Tax. Now, those having income of up to Rs 7 lakh per annum would not have to pay any income tax at all. Previously, this exemption limit was Rs 5 lakh.

Former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said the General Budget 2023-24 presented in Parliament is for the creation and prosperity of New India. This budget was the essence of the feelings of 130 crore people and the basis of their service. This budget is all-inclusive, public welfare oriented and focussed on villages and uplift of the poor, the farmers, and it brought a bundle of hope for every class and for the youth and the women. It would prove to be a milestone in making India an economic superpower.

BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt described the budget as a manifestation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve for a self-reliant India. He said that important decisions had been taken in the budget to benefit every section. The state of Uttarakhand would gain a lot from this inclusive budget. He said that the announcement of tax slabs and increase in income tax exemption had brought a smile on the face of the middle class of the state. Similarly, the Shri Anna Yojana related to promotion of coarse grains would prove to be a game changer for agriculture in the hills. Mainly the hill states like Uttarakhand produce coarse grains like Mandua (Finger Millet) and Chaulai (Amaranthus) and now they would get better prices and bigger market for these products. Creating an agricultural fund to encourage agricultural start-ups by young entrepreneurs would further promote agriculture and industry.

Bhatt also welcomed making a separate provision in the budget for the development of border areas and tourism in the Himalayan region and said that Uttarakhand would get a boost in particular as a result of this. More than 60 lakh people of the state would also get the benefit of extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana by the Centre for one year in the form of free ration. On the other hand, the announcement of working in mission mode to promote tourism would create more employment opportunities to the youth in the state. Reminding that the Indian economy had become the fifth largest economy in the past nine years up from the tenth position, he said the pace of the development is bound to increase with the budget.
