Dehradun, 21 Sep: A team of officials led by Urban Development Minister Dr Prem Chand Agarwal inspected a landfill site operated by the Mainz Municipal Corporation in Germany today.
During the inspection, Agarwal observed that the landfill site established in Mainz has been operating since 1982 and the waste of all the nearby places was processed here.
Agarwal noted that three big hillocks have been made from the garbage at the landfill site and electricity is also being generated from the methane gas plant located there. On this occasion, the team also paid a visit to the German research institute, Landbill. This institute is researching and working towards the disposal of plastic waste in Germany.
On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan, Director, Urban Development, Navneet Pandey, Additional Director Ashok Kumar Pandey, Chief Municipal Commissioner, Haridwar, Dayanand Saraswati, Chief Municipal Commissioner, Rishikesh, Rahul Goyal, Project Director Fion of GIZ, Legal Advisor Christopher, Junior Technical Advisor Anika, etc., were also present.
Sources report that the minister’s trip to Germany is sponsored by the GIZ company.
