Dehradun, 12 May: Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, is the only University in Uttarakhand featured among the top 5 Universities in India and the 85th among the top 100 Universities in the world in the overall category by World Universities Real Impact (WURI) 2026, released in Switzerland. The University ranked 1st in India in three categories – Future-Oriented Responses to Global Uncertainty and Geopolitical Risk; Cost-Effectiveness Management; Representative Research Project.
The University ranked is 1st in Uttarakhand and among top 5 in India for other eight categories i.) Industrial Application, ii.) SDG- and ESG-Based Responses to Past and Present Global Challenges, iii.) Digital and AI Transformation in Strategy and Management, iv.) Funding for Sustainability, v.) Cost-Effectiveness Management, vi.) Interdisciplinary, Convergent, and Integrated Research, vii.) AI-Based Teaching and Learning Transformation, viii.) Inclusive Social Innovation for the Underserved.
The University President, Jitendra Joshi congratulated the team, Research & Innovation and faculty members for this global accomplishment and setting a benchmark for quality education. He said the global ranking of the university is a proud for the state and country. Vice Chancellor Prof Dharam Buddhi presented the rank and mentioned that WURI evaluates the university’s real contributions to the society, highlighting creative and innovative approaches of universities’ research and educational programs based on the various categories like: Student Support and Engagement, Student Mobility and Openness, Industrial Application, Entrepreneur Spirit, Crisis Management, Social Responsibility, Generative AI Application, Support for Global Resilience, Leadership, Funding, Infrastructure/Technology, Symbol/Promotion, Culture/Values.
Dr Rajesh Singh, Director-Research & Innovation, and Dr Anita Gehlot, Joint Director-Research & Innovation, further mentioned that this is the fifth time the University has earned the WURI ranking.
Global Universities with repute participated in the ranking, including Southern Leyte State University, Yale University, Arizona State University, Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, Aalto University, Harvard University, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge and the Indian Institute of Technology from India.
