Nainital, 25 Jun: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, currently on a three-day official visit to Uttarakhand, experienced a sudden health setback this afternoon following an emotionally charged moment during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Kumaun University in Nainital.
Earlier in the day, the Vice President landed at the Haldwani Army Helipad, where he was received by Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya, MP Ajay Bhatt, and other senior officials. After a brief halt at the Nainital Raj Bhawan, he proceeded to a Kumaun University event, where he inaugurated the celebrations by planting a sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.
Following a heartfelt 45-minute address, during which he fondly recalled his parliamentary tenure and shared an emotional reunion with former MP Dr Mahendra Singh Pal, the Vice President’s health reportedly deteriorated. Witnesses noted that he appeared visibly moved and collapsed briefly while embracing Dr Pal.
Medical personnel from the Delhi Health Department, part of the Vice President’s entourage, along with doctors from Nainital District Hospital, promptly administered first aid at the Raj Bhawan. Officials later confirmed that the episode was minor and attributed to emotional strain and fatigue. His condition was stabilised swiftly, and he is now reported to be in good health.
Despite the brief health scare, no changes have been announced to the Vice President’s itinerary. He is expected to continue with his engagements, including attending the 156th Founder’s Day celebrations at Sherwood College on 27 June.
The incident caused a momentary stir among the administration and attendees, but the swift medical response ensured the situation was brought under control without further concern.
