Laksar (Haridwar), 28 Sep:  A vigilance team has arrested a Village Development Officer (VDO or Gram Vikas Adhikari) posted in Laksar. This action has been taken in the case of allegations of having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Later, the Vigilance team presented the accused VDO in the court. The court has sent the accused to 14 days judicial custody.

The name of the accused VDO is Rampal, who is originally from Bulandshahr in UP. He is currently posted as VDO in Laksar of Haridwar district. According to the information, a complaint of disproportionate assets was lodged against the accused VDO in Vigilance a long time ago, which was being investigated by Vigilance.

During the Vigilance investigation, Rampal’s bank accounts were investigated between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2018. In this, his total income was found to be Rs 1.505 crore whereas, during this period Rampal has allegedly spent an amount of over Rs 6.23 crore. Thus this amount is Rs 4.73 crore more than his known income.

According to the vigilance department, the investigation also revealed that the accused had invested a lot of money in the name of his wife Poonam Singh. Poonam Singh was found to have 7 residential plots in Haridwar district and 1 plot in Bulandshahr. Apart from this, the couple also owned a duplex building in Ghaziabad, and a Mercedes car worth about Rs 50 lakh, a Hyundai car, two Activa scooters and a Bullet motorcycle which were also registered in Poonam Singh’s name.

During the interrogation, the Vigilance officials confronted him with the details of his properties but he was not able to tell the source of income through which these properties were acquired. Not satisfied with his responses, the officials arrested him and brought him to Dehradun where he was presented in the Special Anti Corruption Court. The court has sent Rampal Singh to jail in judicial custody for 14 days.
