Haridwar, 28 Sep: The Forest Department in Haridwar achieved a big success when it managed to arrest a wildlife poacher with a leopard skin. Haridwar Range Officer Shailendra Singh Negi has shared this information.
Negi shared that the forest department’s team received a tip from an informer yesterday in this regard. After which, on the instructions of the Sub-Divisional Forest Officer Haridwar, a joint team of Haridwar and Shyampur Range officials launched a checking campaign in the area. During this, the forest department team noticed a suspicous person at Namami Gange Ghat near Chandi Chowk. He was stopped and interrogated.
When the forest department searched him, a leopard skin was recovered from the black bag he was carrying. After this, the forest department team took the accused into custody. During interrogation, the accused revealed that his name is Jaspal Singh, son of Kripal Singh and that he is a resident of village Khalari district Uttarkashi. The forest department team registered a case under the Wildlife Protection Act and took further action after arresting him.
According to the forest department, the accused brought the leopard skin from some other state. However, the team is still investigating the matter. Apart from this, the team is also trying to ascertain to whom the accused was going to sell the leopard skin and from where he had brought it.
