3-day Vasantotsav concludes at Raj Bhavan; ONGC wins “Running Trophy”

Dehradun, 3 Mar: The three-day long Vasanthotsav-2024 concluded on Sunday with colourful programmes at the Raj Bhavan, here. During these three days of Vasant Utsav, a large number of people enjoyed the natural beauty of flowers and cultural programmes. ONGC received this year’s Chal Vaijanti (Running Trophy) in Vasanthotsav-2024.
ONGC received awards in 5 categories, IIT Roorkee in 4 categories. As many as 153 awards were distributed in 53 sub-categories of 15 categories.
Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) awarded the winners in categories like flower exhibition competitions, rangoli and children’s painting competition, photo competition, etc.
At the closing ceremony of Vasantotsav-2024, the Governor acknowledged that despite the adverse weather conditions, the enthusiasm of the people for the flower show this year was unprecedented. A large number of people participated in the flower exhibition and ensured it became a celebration for the people. During the three days, there was an atmosphere of joy and happiness around the Raj Bhavan, attended by about 3 lakh people.
“Through this festival, we have been successful in realising the mantra of success with determination, and prosperity through flowers,” he asserted.
The Governor said that flowers will bring growth in the economy and definitely bring prosperity. He stated that the participation of women in various stalls has made this festival even better. The flowers of Uttarakhand have created a distinct identity from local to global. He congratulated all the winners, participants and the main organiser of the exhibition, the Horticulture Department, Culture Department and all the supporting departments for successfully organising the festival.
On this occasion, Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi said that there has been record participation of people in this Vasantotsav-2024. He said that the Utsav inspires all to connect with nature. Efforts are being made to double the income of farmers by promoting agriculture and horticulture. Flower cultivation is also being promoted during the Chardham Yatra. He promised that the festival will take an even grander form in the coming times.
Artists of the Culture Department presented folk dances and programme in the cultural evening.
First lady Gurmeet Kaur, Secretary to the Governor, Ravinath Raman, Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, Additional Secretary Swati S Bhadauria were also present at the award distribution ceremony. Director of Horticulture Dipti Singh, Vice Chancellor of Doon University, Prof Surekha Dangwal, Director, Sanskriti Department, Bina Bhatt along with many distinguished guests, public representatives and a large number of visitors to the exhibition were also present.
