BJP President sounds poll bugle in U’khand, praises Dhami

Haldwani, 9 Sep: BJP National President Nitin Nabin today launched a sharp attack on the Congress over the Haldwani ‘purification’ controversy, Vande Mataram and the opposition party’s politics of ‘appeasement’. Addressing the state BJP Executive meeting here, he also called upon the BJP workers in Uttarakhand to begin preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections with a clear objective of winning every booth.
Nabin reminded that the elections would be held in five states in 2027 and claimed that the Opposition is attempting to create a political narrative at the national level, but the people would give their response through the ballot box. Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent campaign among students, he described it as the “echo of lies”, saying such exercises might enthuse Congress workers but would not alter the mood of the country’s youth. He asserted that young Indians continued to repose faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and understood that the country was being taken in the right direction.
Taking up the Vande Mataram issue, Nabin alleged that the Congress has consistently pursued a politics of appeasement and therefore had reservations about singing the national song in its entirety. He said Vande Mataram is not merely a song but a symbol of India’s freedom struggle, sacrifice and patriotism. The resonance of Vande Mataram, he said, is not merely an echo of the freedom movement but also represented the resolve to build a developed India by 2047.
Nabin also attacked the Congress over its record on the Dalit community, alleging that the party has repeatedly insulted leaders such as BR Ambedkar and Jagjivan Ram. In contrast, he claimed that the Modi government has accorded due respect to the Dalit icons and highlighted the establishment of five pilgrimage sites associated with Ambedkar.
He also referred to the BJP’s efforts to honour Sant Guru Ravidas and said the party was taking out yatras in his name across the country.
The BJP president accused the Congress of keeping the country’s youth in an atmosphere of disappointment and darkness, saying that young people under the Modi government were moving ahead with hope and confidence towards self-reliance. The youth, he claimed, were increasingly moving from being “job seekers” to “job givers”.
Mentioning Uttarakhand, Nabin said Modi has fulfilled his commitment towards the development of the state, pointing to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, Char Dham road projects and other infrastructure initiatives. He contrasted the present situation with the period when Congress governments were in power, alleging that people in the hill areas then lacked adequate transport and the basic facilities. The BJP, he said, has on the other hand, also worked to extend not only roads but also electricity, drinking water and other essential services to the people.
Nabin praised Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and cited the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) as one of the major initiatives of the state government. He also referred to One Rank One Pension, housing, reservation in government services and increased participation of women in cooperative societies as measures reflecting the government’s approach to welfare and empowerment.
Claiming that the BJP has enjoyed sustained public support in Uttarakhand on the issue of development since 2014, Nabin asserted that the party is in a strong position for the forthcoming Assembly elections and was moving towards forming the government for a third consecutive term. He asked workers not to become complacent however and to intensify organisational activity at the grassroots level.
He said the BJP’s 19 organisational districts, 304 mandals, 2,835 Shakti Kendras and 12,543 booths would constitute the party’s electoral strength in 2027. “Win the booth, win the election” would be the guiding mantra, he said, calling upon every BJP worker to take responsibility for victory at his or her booth. He also asked the party workers to take government schemes and achievements to every household, hold small meetings and undertake regular organisational tours.
Nabin said the “double-engine” government is working with the determination for Uttarakhand’s development and claimed that the positive feedback regarding implementation of Central and state government schemes is reaching not only the BJP organisation but also the Prime Minister’s Office. He said the public response to initiatives including the UCC indicated support for the BJP government’s policies.
Maintaining that the 2027 election in Uttarakhand would be more than a contest for power, Nabin said a BJP victory would represent a victory for the party’s ideology. The message from Uttarakhand, he added, would reach the rest of the country. Nabin’s address today combined praise for the Dhami government and Modi government’s development agenda with an aggressive attack on the Congress and a clear call for the BJP organisation to move into election mode well ahead of the 2027 polls.
