Dehradun, 3 Feb: Under the leadership of Uttarakhand Pradesh Mahila Congress president Jyoti Rautela, a delegation of the Women Congress today met Senior Superintendent of Police Dehradun Ajai Singh and submitted a memorandum expressing serious concern over the continuous brutal murders of women reported from Rishikesh, Vikasnagar and Dehradun city in the district.
On the occasion, Pradesh Mahila Congress president Jyoti Rautela said that the repeated occurrence of such heinous crimes in the very heart of the state capital area is extremely alarming and shameful. She stated that the gruesome murders of women in the capital of Uttarakhand clearly expose the real state of law & order and lay bare the government’s claims regarding women’s safety. She warned that in case, effective and stringent action is not taken in time, such incidents would tarnish the image of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand at the national level. The growing sense of fear and insecurity among women, she said, is a serious warning sign for any sensitive and civilised society.
Rautela demanded that all such cases be investigated in a fair, transparent and time-bound manner, that the guilty be awarded the strictest punishment, and that instead of mere claims, concrete and effective measures be taken at the ground level to ensure women’s safety. She stated unequivocally that the Women Congress would not compromise in any manner on the issue of women’s security in the state and, if the administration fails to take prompt and decisive action, the organisation would be compelled to adopt the path of agitation, the entire responsibility for which would rest with the government and administration.
During the meeting, SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh assured the delegation that all cases are being dealt with seriously and that necessary steps will be taken by giving the highest priority to the safety and security of women.
Other office-bearers and workers of Uttarakhand Mahila Congress were also present on the occasion, including Mahanagar president Urmila Thapa, senior vice-president Asha Manorama Sharma, Pradesh senior vice-president Najma Khan, Pradesh general secretary Nidhi Negi, Pradesh general secretary Anuradha Tiwari, Pradesh secretary Shobha Badoni, Pradesh secretary Rekha Dingra, and National Congress Women Coordinator Shivani Thapliyal Mishra, among others.
