Dehradun, 28 Aug: Dr Nitin Upadhyay, Joint Chief Executive Officer of the Uttarakhand Film Development Council, paid a courtesy call on Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on Tuesday and apprised him of the council’s ongoing activities.

The Chief Secretary emphasised the need to take concrete measures to strengthen the film-making ecosystem in the state. He directed that a proposal be prepared to organise a national-level film festival in collaboration with the Government of India. He also suggested exploring the feasibility of low-cost cinema halls in remote hill areas and creating more opportunities for local youth and artists.

Dr Upadhyay briefed the Chief Secretary on the implementation of the state’s Film Policy. He informed that a Single Window System is already operational to ensure a simple and transparent process for film-making permissions in Uttarakhand. Over the past year, nearly 30 regional films have been produced or are under production in the state. In addition, several major Hindi films and web series with big banners and high budgets are also being shot in Uttarakhand, making the state an increasingly attractive destination for filmmakers.
