Workshop held on ‘Fostering Innovation & Quality in IPR for Sustainable Growth’

Dehradun, 9 Aug: Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, held an inaugural session for a one-day workshop on ‘Fostering Innovation and Quality in IPR for Sustainable Growth’, sponsored by UCOST, here, today.

The ceremony began with a welcome note by Dr Tilottama Singh, HoD, Uttaranchal Institute of Management. Jitender Joshi, President of Uttaranchal University, then felicitated the guests, Prof (Dr) Durgesh Pant, Director General, UCOST; Prof (Dr) Rajat Agrawal, Head of the Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee; and Himanshu Goel, Scientist-II, Patent Information Centre, UCOST. The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp followed by the university’s Kulgeet.

Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, Uttaranchal Institute of Management, delivered the opening remarks highlighting Uttaranchal University’s efforts to encourage research and innovation. He further mentioned the importance of IPR for improving lives by addressing challenges through innovative gadgets. He also emphasised that every innovation is built on some idea and the innovators should be rewarded and supported with rights and funding. In his discussion, he also covered the history of IPR, including copyrights, trademarks, patents and industrial designs, and discussed how IPR contributes to sustainability and economic growth.

Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, stressed that IPR represents ownership of ideas and innovations, and protecting these rights is essential for safeguarding creative contributions. Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, emphasised the importance of sustainability development and claimed that Uttaranchal University excels in research, innovation, patents, and SDG practices, and always assists the students for research papers, patent filing, and IPR proceedings.

The Chief Guest, Prof (Dr) Durgesh Pant, emphasised India’s push for intellectual property and innovation for growth.

The Resource Person, Himanshu Goel, emphasised the importance of patents and intellectual property in the technology era. He covered types of patents, the filing process, and stressed that patents need to be authentic and serve a good cause.

The Keynote speaker, Prof (Dr) Rajat Agrawal, congratulated Uttaranchal University on organising the workshop. He discussed the commercialisation of IPRs and highlighted the importance of patents, noting that they grant the right to manufacture and use innovations, thus generating revenue for the patent holder.

Also present were Ankita Joshi, President, Uttaranchal University, Dr Abhishek Joshi, Executive Director, Student Affairs & IT Services, Er Rajesh Deorari, Director, IQAC, Dr Rajesh Singh, Director, Research & Innovation, Dr Anita Gehlot, Head, Research & Innovation, Arun Godiyal, Director, Corporate Resource Centre (CRC), Uttaranchal University, and Dr Shravan Kumar, Dean, SLA.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Rekha Verma, DIQAC, Uttaranchal Institute of Management. More than 150 external participants along with 1200 students of Uttaranchal Institute of Management were present at the inaugural ceremony.
